Elisabeth Castleman

Elisabeth Giacon Castleman, born and raised in Bolzano (Bozen) in the Northern Italian-Austrian alpine region of Alto Adige (Suedtirol), completed her college education at the University of Vienna (formerly Hochschule fuer Welthandel) in Vienna, Austria. She also worked for several years at the United Nations in Vienna.

Her culinary education began more than 25 years ago at the Istituto Tecnico Femminile Manlio Longon in Bolzano. Her passions are food, spices, herbs, history of food, travel and international ethnic cooking. For the past 13 years she has lived in the United States, and resides now in Frederick, Maryland. She is a professional culinary consultant, restaurant critic, freelance food writer and newspaper food columnist. She also gives cooking instructions on lowfat Germanic cuisine at the Deutsche Schule (German School) Washington, in Potomac, Maryland.

She is married and has three sons.
